When you apply for your Iowa driver's license, you will be asked if you would like to register as an organ donor. If you mark "yes" on your Iowa driver's license application form, you've given legal consent to donate your organs after your death.

If you wish to also donate your corneas and tissue or allow your organs to be used in medical research, you must be listed on the Iowa Donor Registry as well. You may choose to carry a donor card in your wallet, but this is not required.

If you are under the age of 17 you can mark "yes" on your driver's license or identification card. You'll also need to discuss your wishes with your family, and have a parent or guardian return a signature card. A signature card will be mailed to your address 4-6 weeks after your name is entered into the registry.

There's no better day than today, to share with your family your desires to become an organ and tissue donor! By discussing organ and tissue donation with your family, they will know your wishes and be able to carry them out.

If you live outside of Iowa visit the Donate Life website to learn how you can register to be an organ, eye, and tissue donor in your state: www.donatelife.net.
