Join the crusade - the Celebrate Life Relay will spread awareness about organ and tissue donation as 54 runners cover a 315-mile course over 48 continuous hours, crossing the state of Iowa. The relay takes place April 16-18, starting near the Missouri River and ending near the Mississippi River. Runners will travel through 39 towns, including Council Bluffs, Des Moines, Iowa City and Davenport.
April is National Donor Awareness Month. Show your support by running a relay leg -
3-mile, 6-mile, 10-mile or 15-mile segments are available for runners to choose from. Or choose a mile or more to sponsor along the route.
Right now there are over 106,000 men, women, and children across the United States waiting on the National Transplant Waiting List; over 560 of them are Iowans. How many will not receive their second chance? Sadly, on average 18 people die each day from the lack of available organs for transplant and every 11 minutes another name is added to the list. The mission of the Celebrate Life 48 Hour Run Relay is to bring awareness about organ, eye and tissue donation by informing the general public about the facts, the need and the process of becoming an official registered organ donor in the state of Iowa.
